Ed Mylett didn’t grow up in a perfect family environment.  He comes from a lower-middle-class upbringing and even though he speaks to thousands of people each year he is an incredibly shy and insecure person.  

But he knows what it’s like not to believe in yourself and he knows what it’s like to have doubt.

1. Alter Your Beliefs

You have a governor on your identity and it’s like a thermostat. When your life gets going and you start doing really well you may heat up to 75 degrees.  Maybe your life even gets to 85 and 90 degrees, but if that’s not what you believe you deserve you’ll start to cool life back down to get it back to where we’re comfortable.

The reverse is also true. When things start to go really bad and you’re broke and you’re struggling, you find a way to heat your life back up to what you think you’re worth and you deserve. The way you alter your life is to alter that governor, that thermostat and start believing that you’re worth 85 degrees of life, 95 degrees of life, or 110 degrees of life.

2. Don’t Sell Your Will To Win

Most people would stop working hard if they got to a certain dollar amount but that’s a recipe for doom. Don’t let up, never stop working hard or working towards something new. There’s not a stop or a place of destination where you should ever relent or quit. Always seek to improve. There is no finish line.

3. Serve People

One of the best ways to grow, develop, meet new people and make your life matter is to serve and make a difference in others.  Serving others will allow you to live a happy and fulfilled life.

4. Overcome struggles.

In any business, I don’t care if its financial services, tech, a dry cleaners, entrepreneurs, the first five years is just full of false starts. You’re constantly negotiating in your mind the price you’re paying, is it worth it, should I quit, and you’re struggling, struggling and struggling.

Maybe you went broke, lost a car, went through a divorce, lost a house, a job, etc. We’ve all faced challenging and difficult times but it’s what we do and how we act when the chips are down that change us.  Make the necessary mental changes and shifts. Use those struggles to that alter your life in a positive way so you can move forward and win.

5. Find Mentors

It doesn’t matter where you are in life, how young or how old, find a mentor to learn from. Find someone who supports and believes in you.  Find someone who can pour belief in you. Someone who constantly says…

“You’re going to be somebody, someday. You’re going to do something great.” 

Find someone you respect and admire. Someone who is doing what it is you want to do.  Learn from them, model them, do what they do and you’ll see your life begin to change.

6. Chase Discomfort

Is there an advantage sometimes to grow up rich because you’ve got connections, and you see the right behaviors modeled?  Probably.

But you’ll get more out of life when you’re self -made because you’ll claw, fight, and learn from the struggle.

Chasing discomfort, pain, and fear is the most important habit you can acquire. It’s a sign you’re onto something important and it’s 100% the best way to learn and grow.

7. Master the Art of Persuasion

The best persuaders, the best motivators, the best speakers, the best physicians, the best school teachers, the best parents are incredible persuaders. They come from a monster place of conviction and belief that they transfer to you.

Because people respond to energy. They respond to what they feel, not what they hear and see. Energy, spirit, and the transfer of energy is actually what great persuaders do. Think of anybody that you know who’s incredibly persuasive. It’s something you feel from them, right?

8. Get up fast!

Everyone gets hammered. Everyone gets knocked down. You miss an opportunity, someone changes their mind, you get rejected in an interview. It’s not whether you’re getting knocked down, it’s not even whether you’ll get up because everybody eventually gets up. Everybody gets up.

It’s the time you’re on your ass. It’s the time you stay on the mat. Your eyes are closed when you’re on the mat. The longer you stay on the mat the more you’ll become blinded to any other opportunity or blessings in your life.

The key is getting your butt up, like literally getting up and opening your eyes again and chasing again.  Get up fast.

9. Rely on your habits

People think the most inspired motivated person wins.  That’s not true. It’s the person who can work on the days they’re not inspired and motivated. What do you do when it’s not your best day? How do you persist when you’re feeling down or discouraged?

What carries you through the day is rituals and habits. When you’re fatigued, when you’re tired, when you’re under pressure, you react reflexively.

Successful people rely on habits and rituals, not just their inspiration and motivation level. When you see someone out of control, their emotions are up and down all the time. This is someone who is without rituals and habits. Successful people have those.

10. Be A Champion

The champions in everything.  It doesn’t matter if it’s your fitness, your family, your faith, you name it, the way that you get great at something is you dive into it and get adapted quickly.  When you do you’ll be surprised at your ability to adapt and navigate your way through success.

The average people in everything are the ones who constantly take their time. They’re too logical. They say, “Well, I can’t do this until I’m ready. If I’m not ready, I’ll mess it up.”

While the champions have already rolled up their sleeves and dove in. They are already getting acclimated, they’re out there riding their waves and making progress while you’re still on the shore deciding whether you’re going to get ready to get ready.

You’ve got to decide and go. You’ll be amazed at your capacity to evolve, adapt and to succeed.
